Thomas Partey Denies Rape and Sexual Assault Charges Ahead of August Court Appearance

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has firmly denied multiple charges of rape and sexual assault after being officially charged by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the United Kingdom. The charges, confirmed this week, relate to incidents involving three different women between 2021 and 2022.

Partey, 32, is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5, where he will face:

Two counts of rape involving one woman Three counts of rape involving a second woman One count of sexual assault involving a third woman

Legal Response: “He Denies All Charges”

In a statement released through his lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, the Ghanaian international categorically denied all allegations and expressed confidence in the legal process.

“Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name,” Wiltshire stated.

Wiltshire added that, due to ongoing legal proceedings, Partey would not make any further public comments at this time.

CPS and Metropolitan Police Confirm Case Progression

The Crown Prosecution Service, represented by Jaswant Narwal, confirmed the decision to file charges following a detailed review of a comprehensive evidence file submitted by the Metropolitan Police.

“Our prosecutors have worked closely with officers in the Metropolitan Police who have carried out the investigation, to review the evidence and advise on the appropriate charges,” Narwal said.

She also emphasized the importance of safeguarding the fairness of the legal process.

“Criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. It is absolutely vital that there is no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, leading the investigation, urged anyone impacted by the case or in possession of relevant information to come forward.

“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward. We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team.”

Football Career and Departure from Arsenal

The charges were made public just four days after Partey officially left Arsenal, following the expiration of his contract on June 30, 2025. Over his nearly five-year tenure with the North London club, Partey made 130 appearances and scored 9 goals.

He joined Arsenal in October 2020 from Atlético Madrid, after the club activated his £45 million release clause, in a move that was seen as a key midfield signing.

Born in Krobo Odumase, Ghana, Partey began his European football career with Atlético Madrid, where he made 188 appearances and helped the club win the UEFA Europa League in 2018. Despite facing injury setbacks at Arsenal, he had a strong final season, featuring in 52 matches across all competitions.

Final Note

As the legal process unfolds, the public and media are urged to respect due process and refrain from speculation or commentary that could impact the integrity of the trial. Partey’s next court appearance is set for August 5, where the case is expected to proceed to its next phase.
