A tragic accident occurred at Wasa Ankosia, along the Wasa Akropong–Kumasi road, when a Sprinter bus with registration number AS 602–16 and an auto rickshaw veered off the road and plunged into an abandoned galamsey pit.
According to eyewitness reports, the Sprinter was carrying eight passengers at the time of the incident. So far, five individuals have been rescued, while three remain missing and are feared trapped underwater. The cause of the accident is still unknown, but local authorities and rescue teams are actively working at the scene.
This incident raises fresh concerns about the dangers of uncovered galamsey pits near major roads and the urgent need for stricter safety measures in mining communities.
