Potential Legal and Financial Consequences
Martín, the General Director for Disability Rights, issued a strong statement, warning that such acts “objectify people with dwarfism” and evoke a past society that “recalls medieval times.” If the investigation concludes that there was mockery, ridicule, or derision involved, those responsible could face hefty fines ranging from €600,000 to €1,000,000.
These fines are part of Spain’s updated legislative reforms aimed at strengthening protections for persons with disabilities and promoting dignity, respect, and equal treatment in public and private life.
