Saudi Prince Al-Waleed, known as Sleeping Prince, dies after 20 years in coma.

For two decades, a quiet room in Saudi Arabia became a place of unwavering hope, endless prayer, and deep familial devotion. And now, the nation mourns — as news breaks that Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, widely known as the “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away after spending 20 years in a coma.

It’s hard to imagine the weight of twenty years suspended between life and death. In 2005, a tragic car accident abruptly changed the life of 15-year-old Prince Al-Waleed while he was studying in London. The trauma left him in a persistent vegetative state. Since then, his story has become not just one of medical survival, but of spiritual endurance — for his family, especially his father Prince Khaled, and for the many Saudis and people across the region who followed his journey.

Despite his unresponsive state, Prince Khaled refused to give up on his son. He rejected the idea of withdrawing life support, believing that healing was still possible, and he held on to hope as a matter of faith. Over the years, occasional glimpses — a twitch of the finger, a subtle eye movement — gave supporters reason to believe that somewhere within, the Prince still fought to return.

His hospital bed became a sanctuary. Videos circulated online showed family members reciting Quranic verses beside him, singing softly, and speaking words of encouragement. Those moments touched millions — a testament not only to the resilience of the human body but to the unwavering strength of love.

On July 19, 2025, the royal court confirmed what many feared but had quietly prepared for: Prince Al-Waleed had passed away. He was 35 years old. The funeral will be held at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh, where many will gather to say their final goodbyes to a young man whose silence spoke volumes.

For most, Prince Al-Waleed will be remembered not for political influence or royal duties, but for the deep emotional impact of his story. He became a symbol of faith, a reminder of how families endure unimaginable trials, and how hope can live on in the most uncertain of places.

His passing is heartbreaking, yet there’s also a strange peace in knowing that his long, silent struggle is finally over. The boy who never woke up in the physical world has now, perhaps, awakened in a better one.

Rest in peace, Prince Al-Waleed. The nation prayed for your recovery — now it prays for your soul.
