Ritual Content, Fetish Practices, and Money-Doubling Schemes Allowed by the Previous Government—Which Influenced a Boy to Murder His Friend in Kasoa—Will No Longer Air on TV, Says Sam George

Ghana’s Minister for Communication and Digitalisation, Hon. Sam George, has issued a stern warning against the broadcasting of ritual content, fetish practices, and money-doubling schemes on national television. He declared that such content, previously tolerated under the former administration, would not be permitted under the current government.

Speaking at a media stakeholder engagement in Accra, the Minister made direct reference to the tragic 2021 Kasoa ritual murder case, where two teenagers killed a 10-year-old boy, allegedly inspired by money-ritual programs they had watched on TV.

“We will not, under this administration, allow ritual content that the previous government allowed on TV — content that led a 10-year-old to commit murder in Kasoa,” Sam George said. “We must protect the minds of our youth and preserve the moral fabric of our society.”

He added that the government is committed to cleansing Ghana’s media space of exploitative and harmful programming. Self-proclaimed spiritualists promoting “money-doubling miracles” and fetish-based rituals in exchange for offerings have flooded TV screens in recent years, raising alarm among parents, educators, and civic groups.

The Minister assured the public that the National Communications Authority (NCA) and other regulatory bodies will enforce stricter monitoring and content regulation, with immediate effect.

“No more fetish shows, no money rituals, and no fake spiritual solutions on TV. Enough is enough,” he emphasized.

Media houses are being urged to review their content policies or face sanctions.

This decisive action marks a significant step toward media reform and child protection in Ghana.
