President Tinubu Gifts Nigeria Women’s Team $100,000 , 3 bedroom Apartment each, and National Awards After WAFCON Victory

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) award on all 24 players and 11 technical crew members of the Super Falcons following their thrilling triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

At a grand reception held on Monday, July 29, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President also announced a reward of $100,000 (in naira equivalent) for each player and $50,000 for each coach and support staff. In addition, all team members will receive a three-bedroom apartment under the government’s Renewed Hope Housing Scheme.

“You have inspired millions, especially young girls who now see proof that their dreams are valid,” Tinubu said, lauding their resilience and unity during the final match—a dramatic 3-2 comeback win against Morocco.

Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, voted Most Valuable Player of the tournament, expressed gratitude on behalf of the squad and dedicated the win to Nigerian girls everywhere: “This victory is not just a trophy. It’s a celebration of every young girl who dares to dream.”

The celebration continued with a pledge of ₦10 million each from the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, presented by its chairman, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. Other tributes came from First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, who praised the team’s passion, and National Sports Commission Chairman Shehu Dikko, who hailed the win as a symbol of national unity and pride.

This moment marks the Falcons’ record 10th WAFCON title and reinforces Nigeria’s status as a powerhouse in African women’s football — and a nation that celebrates its champions in style.
