Popular Ghanaian vlogger, Wode Maya, has shared an intriguing story about how President John Dramani Mahama’s reputation opened doors for him in Burkina Faso. In an interview with media personality Kafui Dey, shared on X on August 26, 2025, Wode Maya revealed that Mahama is highly respected in the country—second only to Burkina Faso’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
According to Wode Maya, many Burkinabè admire Mahama for his perceived support and respect for their president. This admiration proved useful during his vlogging trip. He recounted using a photo he had taken with Mahama as a sort of “ID card” to gain access to restricted areas, even getting clearance from police while filming.
“They love him in Burkina Faso. When it gets tough, I just show the picture and they allow me,” he said.
Wode Maya’s story highlights the unexpected ways public perception and political goodwill can impact everyday experiences—even in content creation across borders.
