In the wake of the tragic helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom forest on August 6, 2025—which claimed the lives of eight gallant servicemen, including two Cabinet ministers—Ghanaians are reminded of a similarly heartbreaking event in the nation’s history: the Atewa Forest Air Force helicopter crash of March 2002.

That Saturday, seven brave individuals lost their lives when an Agusta Bell 412 helicopter crashed during its return to Accra from a medical evacuation mission. The aircraft had transported two patients from Nkawkaw and was piloted by Wing Commander Ben Acheampong.
