In a startling revelation, government spokesperson Kwaku Owusu Banahene has accused members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of deliberately sabotaging the presidential jet during John Dramani Mahama’s presidency. Speaking on Angel TV on August 13, 2025, Banahene alleged that acid was poured on critical components of the jet to corrode them, putting Mahama’s life at risk.
According to Banahene, the NPP not only damaged the aircraft but later insisted that Mahama continue to use the compromised jet. He suggested this was a deliberate attempt to endanger the former president, adding that it explains why Mahama opted to use his brother’s jet—an action that faced strong opposition from the NPP at the time.
These explosive claims come in the wake of the tragic crash of a Z9 military helicopter that claimed the lives of several top government officials, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, among others.
No evidence has yet been provided to support the allegations, and the NPP has not officially responded. The situation adds tension to an already politically charged atmosphere following the recent national tragedy.
