Nigerian Military K!lls 35 Armed Extremists in Airstrikes Near Cameroon Border

Nigeria’s military has confirmed the killing of 35 jihadists in a series of targeted airstrikes near its north-eastern border with Cameroon. The strikes, carried out in four locations, were aimed at stopping a planned attack on ground troops.

The country continues to battle multiple security threats, including jihadist insurgencies, armed criminal gangs, and mass kidnappings. Over a decade of conflict has left more than 35,000 people dead and displaced around 2 million, according to the UN.

A recent report by Amnesty International stated that at least 10,217 people have been killed since President Bola Tinubu took office two years ago. In response, a coalition of former officials, business leaders, and civil society groups called for the creation of a Presidential Task Force with sweeping powers to tackle Nigeria’s escalating violence.

The military also reported nearly 600 militants killed in the past eight months, though these figures remain unverified.

Meanwhile, jihadist groups are evolving, using modified commercial drones to target military bases and disrupt reinforcements. The Nigerian Air Force has pledged to continue supporting ground operations in the region.

Earlier this month, the U.S. approved a $346 million arms sale to Nigeria, aimed at bolstering its counter-terrorism efforts.
