In a bold political move, nearly 10 members of Uganda’s Gen-Z have picked up nomination forms to contest the presidency in the upcoming January 2026 elections. The youthful aspirants aim to challenge long-serving President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power since 1986.
This growing wave of young contenders reflects a strong desire for change among Uganda’s youth, many of whom are pushing for fresh leadership, better governance, and greater opportunities. While official campaigns are yet to begin, the entry of these Gen-Z candidates signals a shift in Uganda’s political landscape as the country approaches a crucial election year.
