Nana Agradaa Jailed 15 Years with Hard Labour for Defrauding by False Pretence

Founder of the Heaven’s way International Church, Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court. The high-profile televangelist was found guilty of defrauding members of the public by false pretence.

The conviction marks the end of a long legal battle that began after multiple victims came forward, accusing Agradaa of orchestrating a fraudulent “money-doubling” scheme under the guise of spiritual intervention. She allegedly convinced her followers to bring large sums of money to her church with the promise that the amount would be miraculously doubled. However, many of the victims never received anything in return.

Presiding judge Her Honour Evelyn Asamoah handed down the 15-year custodial sentence after the court found overwhelming evidence that Nana Agradaa deliberately used her position as a spiritual leader to manipulate and deceive vulnerable followers for personal financial gain.

Throughout the trial, witnesses detailed how Agradaa used both televised broadcasts and social media platforms to advertise her “spiritual solutions” and financial miracles. Prosecutors argued that she preyed on the desperation of people seeking breakthroughs, offering them false hope in exchange for money.

The sentencing has sparked widespread reaction across Ghana, with many viewing it as a strong message against fraudulent religious practices. For years, Nana Agradaa was a controversial figure, frequently criticized for blending traditional spiritualism with Christian evangelism and promoting wealth-focused theology.

This landmark ruling is seen as a victory for victims of spiritual and financial exploitation, and a warning to others who use religion as a tool for deceit.

Nana Agradaa is expected to serve her full sentence in a Ghanaian prison, with hard labour as part of her punishment—a sentence that reflects the gravity of the crimes and the breach of public trust involved.
