Kansaworado, Western Region — A 69-year-old man, Francis Quarm, popularly known as “Gabo”, was murdered in the early hours of Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at his residence in Kansaworado, a suburb of Sekondi-Takoradi.

According to his daughter, Paulina Quarm, the victim was asleep when a young man believed to be in his early twenties broke into his room and attacked him with a machete. The motive for the attack remains unclear.
“The suspect forced his way into the room and started attacking my father,” she said in an interview with Connect FM. “Despite people rushing to the scene, no one could intervene because he was armed and acting violently. A young man eventually overpowered him, but by that time, my father had already died.”
Assembly Member for Kansaworado, George Cobbinah, confirmed the incident and disclosed that the suspect had exhibited troubling behavior in recent days. He had allegedly assaulted his mother the day before and also stormed a church with a machete, threatening members of the congregation.
“We tried to arrest him earlier, but he went into hiding. Around midnight, he was reportedly heard shouting that he needed more blood,” Mr. Cobbinah said.
The suspect has since been arrested by police. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital mortuary.
Police investigations are ongoing.
