Man Captured, Beaten, and Forced to Apologize After Defying Otumfuo’s Curfew and Insulting the Asantehene and Late Asantehemaa in Viral Video

A young man has been caught and severely beaten after recording a video of himself walking the streets of Kumasi during a curfew imposed by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in honour of the late Asantehemaa. In the video, he not only defied the curfew but also made offensive remarks against the Asantehene and the late Queen Mother, claiming that only God could command him.

The video sparked outrage on social media, leading to his swift arrest. He was later filmed apologizing to Otumfuo while visibly injured, expressing remorse for his actions.

The curfew was part of traditional mourning rites to honour the legacy of the late Asantehemaa, and the incident has been widely condemned as a show of disrespect to Asante customs and authority.
