Mahama penalizes appointees for late asset declaration, donating salaries to Ghana’s Medical Trust Fund.

President John Dramani Mahama recently took decisive action against government appointees who failed to meet the deadline for declaring their assets, a requirement aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in public service. The appointees were given until March 31, 2025, to comply with the asset declaration regulations.

In response to the non-compliance, President Mahama has sanctioned those who failed to meet the deadline. The penalty involves the forfeiture of four months’ salary for each of the implicated appointees. These funds will be collectively donated to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, which supports various healthcare initiatives and projects across the country.

This move by President Mahama underscores his administration’s commitment to upholding ethical standards and ensuring that public officials adhere to the established rules and regulations. By directing the forfeited salaries to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, the President is also ensuring that this disciplinary action contributes positively to the healthcare sector, providing additional resources for medical assistance and infrastructure development. The President hopes that this action will serve as a strong deterrent and reinforce the importance of transparency and accountability among all government officials.
