Light Aircraft Crash-Lands at Southend Airport After Undercarriage Failure

A light aircraft made a crash landing at Southend Airport on Sunday afternoon after experiencing a malfunction with its landing gear, authorities have confirmed.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. BST, when the aircraft’s undercarriage reportedly collapsed during landing. Emergency responders, including the airport’s fire service and the East of England Ambulance Service, were swiftly on the scene.

Eyewitnesses said the plane appeared to struggle as it touched down, with its landing gear giving way just before it came to a halt on the runway. Fortunately, all on board were unharmed.

A spokesperson for Southend Airport stated:

“A light aircraft had an issue with its undercarriage this afternoon. Emergency services responded promptly, and there were no injuries reported.”

The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that no one required hospital treatment, and that standard safety checks were followed at the scene.

Authorities have yet to disclose further details about the aircraft or the number of people on board. Investigations are likely to follow as is standard protocol in such situations.

While operations at Southend Airport were briefly affected, normal service resumed shortly after emergency teams cleared the scene.
