Renowned Ghanaian sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah has alleged that English Premier League club Arsenal may have played a role in the timing of rape and sexual assault charges brought against Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey.
Partey was formally charged by the UK’s Metropolitan Police on July 5, 2025, with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The alleged incidents reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022, during his time at Arsenal, but only became public after his recent exit from the club.
Allegations Against Partey
According to police reports, the charges involve three separate women:
Two counts of rape involving one woman Three counts of rape involving a second woman One count of sexual assault involving a third woman
The incidents allegedly took place while Partey was an active player for Arsenal. The sudden release of the charges just days after contract renewal talks with the club fell through has raised suspicions in some circles, including from Yeboah.
Yeboah Questions Arsenal’s Role
Speaking on Ghana’s Radio XYZ, Dan Kwaku Yeboah implied that Arsenal officials might have had knowledge of the allegations earlier and possibly influenced when they were made public.
“The way the charges surfaced, I believe Arsenal may have influenced the timing,” he said. “The incidents occurred while he was with the club, yet they only became public in 2025, after he left. That’s not a coincidence.”
Yeboah also warned that the legal case could significantly harm Partey’s career, as clubs may now hesitate to sign him until the matter is fully resolved in court.
Controversial Comments on Male Behavior
In addition to his criticism of Arsenal, Yeboah made headlines for his comments on the social response to the charges, particularly those advising men to be more cautious around women.
“People are advising him and other men to be careful, but that may be hypocritical. Men are moved by sight, so if a woman appears naked, it’s likely the man will be aroused,” he stated.
His comments have drawn mixed reactions, with some defending his candor while others view his remarks as an inappropriate generalization that downplays the seriousness of consent and accountability.
Arsenal Yet to Respond
As of now, Arsenal Football Club has not issued any official statement regarding Yeboah’s allegations or the charges against their former player. Thomas Partey, who left the club earlier this year, has also not spoken publicly since the charges were announced.
The case is expected to go through the UK judicial system in the coming months. Legal experts say proceedings could take a year or more, depending on the evidence and testimonies involved.
