Health Minister Blames COVID-19 Spike on University of Ghana Hall Week Celebrations

Accra, Ghana – July 1, 2025

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed a localized surge in COVID‑19 cases at the University of Ghana, officially linking it to hall week celebrations held late June. According to Dr. Franklin Asiedu‑Bekoe, Director of Public Health at GHS, “there was this hall week celebration, and because we had a cluster of students, one of whom had the virus, it caused the spread”  .

While they noted that the virus had never fully disappeared, the hall week acted as a catalyst, igniting a cluster of mild cases on campus
