Accra, 4th August 2025 — The Government of Ghana, through the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC) on Cocoa, has announced a major boost for cocoa farmers ahead of the 2025/2026 crop season. Effective Thursday, 7th August 2025, the producer price of cocoa has been increased from US$3,100 per tonne to US$5,040 per tonne — a significant 62.58% jump in dollar terms.
This new price represents 70% of the gross Free-On-Board (FOB) value of US$7,200 per tonne, fulfilling President John Mahama’s promise to cocoa farmers. The increase marks a clear departure from the 2024/2025 cocoa season, during which the previous administration set the producer price at just 63.9% of the FOB value despite higher global market prices.
At an average exchange rate of GHS10.25 to US$1, the new price translates to GHS51,660 per tonne or GHS3,228.75 per 64kg bag of cocoa — up from GHS49,600. Government noted that since the second quarter of 2025, it has absorbed GHS1,114 per bag in subsidies to protect farmers’ incomes amid a strong Cedi and declining inflation.

This move pushes the farmer’s share of FOB earnings to over 99%, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to improving farmer welfare.
In addition to the price increase, President Mahama’s administration has reintroduced the Free Cocoa Fertilizer Programme for the 2025/2026 season. Under this initiative, cocoa farmers will receive free supplies of:
Liquid and granular fertilizers Insecticides Spraying machines Fungicides Flower inducers
The PPRC has also approved updated rates and margins for all players in the cocoa value chain — including buyers, hauliers, warehouse operators, and internal marketers. COCOBOD has made the necessary logistics, such as jute sacks, available to ensure a smooth start to the season.
This comprehensive package aims to boost productivity, support farmer livelihoods, and position Ghana’s cocoa sector for sustainable growth.
