Government Considered Shutting Down Internet in Ghana to Stop Spread of Helicopter Crash Videos – Sam George

Ghana’s Minister of Communication, Sam George, has revealed that the government considered a brief internet shutdown to stop the circulation of disturbing videos from the recent helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several public figures.

“I was faced with the option of shutting down the internet briefly to stop the spread of the videos of the helicopter tragedy online,” Sam George stated, highlighting the ethical and national security concerns posed by the viral footage.

Though the shutdown was ultimately not implemented, the minister’s remarks have ignited public debate over digital responsibility, freedom of information, and how the country should handle sensitive content in times of national tragedy.
