In a significant move to combat illegal mining, the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (GOLDBOD) has donated GHC 5 million to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat.
This contribution is aimed at strengthening the ongoing efforts against galamsey—a term used in Ghana to describe illegal small-scale gold mining, which has caused severe environmental damage and threatens water bodies across the country.
The support from GOLDBOD reflects growing private sector involvement in the national fight to preserve Ghana’s natural resources and promote responsible mining practices.
Authorities say the funds will be used to enhance logistics, surveillance, and enforcement operations in mining hotspots.
