Ghana Initiates New Efforts to Launch a National Airline

After nearly two decades without a national carrier, Ghana’s aviation ambitions are soaring once again. A high-level task force is being inaugurated to fast-track the establishment of a national airline, signaling a renewed commitment to reconnecting Ghana to the world.

Ghana’s journey to reclaim its place in the skies has been turbulent. The original flag carrier, Ghana Airways, ceased operations in 2004, followed by Ghana International Airlines in 2010. Hopes were rekindled in September 2022 when Ashanti Airlines was chosen as the government’s strategic partner, paving the way for a rebranded “Ghana Airlines.”

H.E John Dramani Mahama (President ,Republic of Ghana)

Under the directive of President John Dramani Mahama, the new task force, led by the Ministry of Transport, aims to attract fresh investor interest and forge strategic partnerships. Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has emphasized the need for collaboration, acknowledging that the country’s economic realities necessitate a joint effort to bring this vital project to fruition. With the right partnerships and strategic vision, Ghana is poised to once again have a national airline that will boost its economy, create jobs, and connect the country to the global stage.
