What was meant to be a joyful and spirited Sunday community football match ended in tragedy yesterday at Kyebi-Asiakwa in the Eastern Region.

The much-anticipated Sunday Special fixture between local teams took a dark turn when two players collided mid-game in what seemed like a regular contest for the ball. The collision, however, proved to be severe—one player was left unconscious on the pitch, while the other suffered serious injuries.

Bystanders, teammates, and community members quickly intervened, and the unconscious player was rushed to the nearest hospital in a desperate bid to save his life. Sadly, hours later, the player’s family and team were delivered the devastating news: he had succumbed to his injuries.

The incident has left the Kyebi-Asiakwa community in deep mourning, as tributes pour in for the young athlete whose life was cut tragically short during a game meant to bring unity and joy.

Local authorities and football organizers have expressed their condolences to the family, and calls are growing for improved safety measures during community sporting events.

As investigations continue, the injured player is said to be receiving treatment and remains in stable but serious condition.

This heartbreaking event serves as a painful reminder of the risks involved in sports, and the importance of immediate medical support and proper safety protocols, even at the grassroots level.
