EOCO, FBI and Canadian police uncover over 300 stolen luxury cars in Ghana

Accra, August 25, 2025 — The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has revealed that over 300 luxury vehicles stolen from the United States and Canada have been smuggled into Ghana as part of an international car theft syndicate.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, EOCO’s legal officer Sedina Gbeve confirmed that the high-end cars — including Bentleys, Range Rovers, BMW X7s and X8s, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Honda CRVs, Rolls-Royces, and Cadillac Escalades — were illegally imported and sold at unusually low prices.

So far, EOCO has recovered over 60 vehicles with support from the FBI and Royal Canadian Mounted Police, though that number is only a portion of what is believed to have entered the country. Criminals often exploit delays in theft reporting systems abroad to ship the cars before alerts are raised.

“These are not ordinary vehicles,” Gbeve noted. “Imagine getting a $50,000 car for $20,000 — that should be a red flag.”

EOCO is actively pursuing prosecutions and working to return the stolen vehicles to their rightful owners. However, the cost of repatriation will be borne by the owners themselves.
