Elon Musk has announced he’s starting a new political group called the America Party, just weeks after a public falling out with U.S. President Donald Trump.
The billionaire shared the news on his platform X, saying Americans need an alternative to the two main political parties. He claimed the current system is full of waste and corruption, calling it “a one-party system, not a democracy.”
“Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” Musk wrote.
So far, there’s no record of the party being officially registered, and Musk hasn’t said who will lead it or what its policies are.
What Happened Between Musk and Trump?
Musk was once a big supporter of Trump. He donated $250 million to Trump’s 2024 campaign and joined the administration to help cut government spending. But things went sour in May when Musk quit, criticizing Trump’s massive tax and spending plan that could add $3 trillion to the national debt.
Their feud played out online, with both sides trading jabs.
What’s Next?
It’s unclear if Musk’s party will run in future elections or if it’s just a statement for now. But with his money, influence, and platform, many are watching to see if he’s serious about shaking up U.S. politics.
