DJ Vyrusky Reveals He Was Once Paid $20,000 for a Single Gig — By Mistake

Accra, Ghana – July 9, 2025

Popular Ghanaian disc jockey Kofi Amoako, known in showbiz circles as DJ Vyrusky, has revealed that the highest amount he has ever earned from a single performance is $20,000 — and it all happened because of a surprising mix-up.

Speaking on the Let’s Do Drinks show hosted by Ama Burland, Vyrusky shared the story behind the unexpected payday. He explained that he had quoted ₵20,000 (Ghanaian cedis) for a private gig, but the client — assuming the figure was in U.S. dollars — went ahead and paid $20,000 instead.

“I mentioned GH₵20,000, but the client paid $20,000 because everything about the event was being handled in dollars,” he said.

Branding is Everything

While the mistake may have been in his favor, DJ Vyrusky emphasized that such high earnings aren’t just luck — they’re often the result of solid branding. He noted that DJs who take their image seriously and invest in their brand can command much higher rates.

“It would all depend on your branding and what you do… You don’t just get to charge a certain amount. You have to brand well.”

He even mentioned knowing another Ghanaian DJ — unknown to the public — who earns even more through private gigs without being a social media personality or club regular.

Why He Left the Nightclub Scene

When asked whether big payouts were the reason he stepped away from playing in nightclubs, Vyrusky clarified that it was not financially motivated. Instead, it was his increasingly demanding schedule that made club gigs unsustainable.

“I got too busy for nightlife,” he explained. “I used to work with Shatta Wale, KiDi, Kuami Eugene and the Lynx Entertainment boys. I was always travelling.”

He added that club owners need consistency, something he couldn’t offer due to his commitments on tour and with high-profile artistes.

DJ Vyrusky, known for his versatility and crowd control, continues to be one of Ghana’s most sought-after DJs, and his story is yet another reminder of the growing opportunities for entertainers who build strong personal brands.
