A diesel-laden tanker overturned and exploded in flames on Sunday afternoon at Iyana-Isolo, along the busy Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, sparking widespread panic and severe traffic congestion in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the tanker reportedly suffered a brake failure before ramming into a commercial bus. The impact caused the vehicle to topple into a roadside gutter, after which it burst into flames.
The driver and a companion onboard the tanker sustained varying degrees of injury and were quickly attended to by emergency medical teams at the scene.
Officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and the Nigeria Police Force responded swiftly to contain the fire, secure the area, and restore traffic flow.
Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution and avoid the affected route as cleanup operations continue. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
