Defence Minister defends Veep Naana Jane, blames Akufo-Addo gov’t for non-functional presidential jet.

Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has hit back hard against allegations that Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang chartered a private jet for her return from the UK. In a fiery statement released on Facebook today, May 23, the Minister didn’t hold back, turning the focus onto what he calls the previous administration’s neglect of Ghana’s official presidential aircraft.

According to Dr. Boamah, the former Akufo-Addo government dropped the ball when it came to maintaining the country’s presidential jet, ultimately leaving it in an unusable state. He revealed some pretty shocking details: the aircraft’s fuel tank is corroded, and the jet is currently grounded overseas, undergoing major repairs and maintenance.

These comments come as a direct response to criticisms from certain members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Specifically, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the MP for Old Tafo, alleged that Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, who had been on medically induced leave in the UK, splurged on a chartered private flight to return to Ghana on Thursday, May 22. The Minister’s statement aims to set the record straight and shift the blame back to the previous administration.
