Dangote: Nigerian Government Earns 52 Kobo for Every Naira Generated by His Cement Company

Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest individual, has revealed that the Federal Government of Nigeria benefits significantly from his cement business, earning 52 kobo for every N1 generated. He made this disclosure at the Taraba International Investment Summit 2025 in Jalingo, emphasizing the critical role of government support in fostering the growth of private enterprises.

Dangote highlighted that when businesses prosper, the nation reaps substantial rewards through increased tax revenue and job creation. He stated, “You know, I’m sure it might be shocking to you to know that the federal government of Nigeria, not even the states, makes more money from, for example, our cement business. For every one naira we turn around, 52 kobo goes to the federal government of Nigeria.”

Dangote Cement, the largest cement producer in Africa, operates in over 10 countries, including Nigeria, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and South Africa. With a production capacity exceeding 51 million metric tons annually, the company has significantly reduced Africa’s dependence on imported cement.

Dangote reiterated his long-standing belief that while governments should not directly run businesses, they are essential in creating an environment conducive to enterprise growth. He pledged continued investment in Nigeria, underscoring the importance of job creation and societal impact.
