A 50-year-old woman, identified as Auntie Akos, has died after accidentally falling into an abandoned mining pit at Mpasatia in the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, while she was reportedly engaged in illegal mining activities. Eyewitnesses say she slipped and fell into the disused pit. Though she was quickly rescued and rushed to the Frimpong Boateng Clinic in Toase, she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her body has been deposited at the Toase Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Local authorities have issued fresh warnings to illegal miners, urging them to stay away from abandoned pits, which have claimed several lives in recent months.
