The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on Ghana’s political actors to refrain from turning the purchase of presidential planes and helicopters into a political issue. He emphasized that such procurement is a matter of national security and human safety, not political convenience.
His statement came during a courtesy visit from the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, to the Manhyia Palace following last week’s tragic helicopter crash in Obuasi that claimed eight lives. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II described the accident as a grave national concern and extended his deepest sympathies to President John Mahama and the families who lost loved ones.
The Asantehene stressed the urgent need for Ghana’s leadership to treat aviation safety and the acquisition of security equipment with the seriousness it deserves. “Enough of the politicising of the purchase of presidential planes and helicopters. Human lives are at stake here. We must invest to safeguard their safety and efficiency,” he stated.
His call highlights the critical importance of unity and prioritizing the safety of Ghanaian leaders and citizens in matters relating to aviation security.
