Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III Passes Away at 91

The Asante Kingdom is in mourning following the death of the revered Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away at the age of 91. Her death was formally confirmed by the Oyoko Royal Family to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, during an emergency meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council held on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, born Nana Ama Konadu, was the 14th Queen Mother of the Ashanti Kingdom and the biological sister of the current Asantehene. She ascended to the stool of Asantehemaa eight years ago, following the passing of her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, the previous Asantehemaa.

A Pillar of Strength and Tradition

As the second most powerful figure in the Ashanti Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III was a symbol of wisdom, loyalty, and cultural continuity. Her reign was marked by her unwavering dedication to Asante customs and governance, often providing counsel to the Asantehene and acting as a stabilizing force within the royal court and beyond.

She was deeply respected across Asanteman for her grace, strength, and influence, and her death marks the end of a significant chapter in the kingdom’s storied history.

Circumstances of Her Passing

Although official details remain limited, sources close to the family have reported that Nana Konadu Yiadom III passed peacefully at dawn on August 7, 2025. Her death triggered a series of traditional rites and protocols that are observed strictly within Asante royal customs, which delayed the public announcement until these rites were completed.

What Happens Next

The Manhyia Palace is expected to issue an official statement to the general public in the coming days. This will include funeral arrangements and traditional observances to honor her legacy. As is customary, these proceedings will reflect the rich culture and ceremonial depth of the Ashanti Kingdom.

Asanteman and all Ghanaians are invited to mourn and celebrate the life of a Queen Mother whose wisdom and leadership left an indelible mark on the kingdom and beyond.
