Parliamentary aspirant Akua Afriyie has received a significant financial boost ahead of the Ablekuma North NPP parliamentary primaries rerun, with contributions from two prominent presidential hopefuls: Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Bryan Acheampong.
In total, Afriyie has secured over GHS610,000 and $6,500 in campaign support as internal party competition intensifies in the lead-up to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries scheduled for January 2026.
Bawumia Donates GHS410,000
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is contesting to lead the NPP into the 2026 general elections, has donated GHS410,000 to Akua Afriyie to support her campaign efforts in the rerun election. The donation is seen as part of a broader effort by Dr. Bawumia to consolidate support at the grassroots level.
Bryan Acheampong Contributes GHS200,000 and $6,500
Fellow presidential aspirant and current Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, also extended his support with a donation of GHS200,000 to Afriyie. In addition, he provided $6,500 in direct financial support to coordinators and polling station chairpersons within the Ablekuma North constituency—an influential bloc in determining the outcome of the rerun.
Political Implications
The financial backing from both Bawumia and Acheampong is not just about parliamentary politics—it reflects their strategic interests ahead of the upcoming NPP presidential primaries. By aligning with key parliamentary candidates and constituency leaders, both men are building alliances that could prove crucial in securing delegate votes come January 2026.
About the Rerun
The rerun of the Ablekuma North parliamentary primary follows unresolved issues from the initial election, with Akua Afriyie vying for a comeback amid fierce competition. With the support of heavyweight figures in the party, she appears well-positioned to make a strong showing.
Observers say this financial injection could sway undecided voters and energize her base in a closely watched constituency.
