Agradaa’s 15-year jail sentence won’t stop us — Empress Gifty’s lawyers insist her defamation case will proceed despite Agradaa’s imp

Accra, Ghana – July 3, 2025 — Legal practitioner Obiri Boahen has stated that the 15-year prison sentence handed to Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, will not prevent gospel musician Empress Gifty from pursuing her defamation case against the embattled evangelist.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM with Nana Romeo, the lawyer clarified that Agradaa’s recent conviction for defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement does not nullify or delay other ongoing legal matters involving her.

“Empress Gifty still has a case, and regardless of whether Agradaa goes to prison, it will not affect Empress’ case against her,” Boahen emphasized. “Empress can proceed with the prosecution even in Agradaa’s absence.”

He explained that Agradaa’s incarceration does not exempt her from facing other legal proceedings. If her presence is required in court, the judiciary has the authority to issue a warrant directing prison authorities to transport her to attend hearings.

No Need to Relocate the Case

Addressing questions about the practicality of continuing legal proceedings while Agradaa is behind bars, Boahen clarified that Empress Gifty’s defamation case will not be relocated to a court closer to Agradaa’s prison.

“Agradaa’s legal team may submit an application to the Chief Justice to consider her incarceration, but that decision lies with the court,” he added.
