A businessman, Maurice Osei-Anim, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to defraud individuals in Accra by falsely claiming connections with Ghana’s Interior Minister, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka.
According to intelligence received by the Ministry, Osei-Anim was operating a scheme in which he posed as someone with close ties to the Minister, promising to facilitate international travel for unsuspecting victims under the guise of a supposed “global tour” organized by the Minister.
The suspect allegedly lured two individuals, Mohammed Amoah and Israel Geraldo, into believing he could secure their participation in the tour. During interrogation, Osei-Anim reportedly admitted to the crime and mentioned a man named “Daniel” as the mastermind behind the operation.
A search of the suspect revealed two Ghanaian passports in his possession. Despite the confession, Osei-Anim pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempting to defraud by false pretence.
At the Circuit Court 11 in Accra, presided over by Her Honour Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, the accused was granted bail of GH¢70,000 with two sureties—one of whom must be a civil servant earning at least GH¢2,500 monthly.
The case has been adjourned to October 30, 2025.
