Kenya Bids $3.9M to Host First-Ever African Grammy Awards in Nairobi

Kenya is setting the stage to become a global creative powerhouse. President William Ruto has announced that the country has placed a bid of Ksh. 500 million (approx. $3.9 million) to host the first African edition of the Grammy Awards in Nairobi.

The announcement, initially made in December 2024 and reaffirmed in August 2025, reflects Kenya’s ambition to cement its position as a hub for the music and creative industry across the continent.

As part of the initiative, the government also plans to build world-class music studios and foster local talent. Further engagements with the Recording Academy are expected as Kenya pushes to bring the prestigious music event to African soil for the first time.

This move could open doors for East African artists and creators to gain international visibility and opportunities.
