Internet Fraud Fuels Nigerian Music Industry – Rapper M.I Raises Alarm

Veteran Nigerian rapper M.I Abaga has raised concerns about the source of funding in the country’s music industry. Speaking on the “So Nigerian Podcast,” he claimed that a significant portion of the financial backing for Nigerian artistes comes from internet fraud, commonly known as “Yahoo Yahoo.”

M.I described this as a troubling reality and an indictment on Nigeria, stressing that the reliance on fraudulent money and foreign investment reveals deep flaws in how the nation supports its creative sector.

“It shows that something is wrong,” he said, calling for a system where artistes can thrive through legal and sustainable revenue streams.
