Transport Operators Suspend Proposed 20% Fare Hike After Meeting with Ministry

Road Transport Operators have agreed to suspend a purported 20% increase in public transport fares following a meeting with the Ministry of Transport on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The suspension comes amid concerns over a lack of broader stakeholder consultation on the proposed fare adjustment. After discussions, operators resolved to maintain the existing 15% fare reduction, which has been in effect since May 24, 2025.

The Ministry and transport leaders are urging all operators to enforce the 15% fare cut and have appealed for the cooperation of both transport operators and the general public in ensuring compliance.
