Tragedy struck the peaceful suburb of Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality on the evening of Wednesday, July 9, when 21-year-old Desmond Adzah, a well-known mobile money (MoMo) vendor, was shot and killed by suspected armed robbers.
According to reports,the horrifying incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. at Quarters Junction, a spot where Desmond regularly operated his MoMo business. He was reportedly ambushed by unknown gunmen while returning home after a day’s work.
Ambushed and Shot Multiple Times
Eyewitnesses say Desmond was shot multiple times. He was quickly rushed to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead while receiving emergency treatment.

Local resident and eyewitness, Ruben Kumor, shared his heartbreaking account of the moments before the shooting.
“Desmond is known to all of us at the junction. Almost everyone relies on him for his services,” Kumor said. “Just after he had closed for the day, I met him and asked to withdraw GHC150, but he told me he was short on cash.”
“While I was heading back to my office to get money, I suddenly heard a gunshot. A woman nearby wanted to rush to the scene, but children held her back. Moments later, someone came to tell me Desmond was the one who had been shot.”
Community in Shock
Residents of Ngleshie Amanfro are reeling from the incident, calling it a wake-up call to growing insecurity in the area. Desmond, described by many as polite, hardworking, and reliable, was known to serve dozens of customers daily.
Local traders and community members are urging the Ghana Police Service to intensify patrols and ensure swift justice is served.
Police Yet to Comment
As of the time of this report, police officials have not released an official statement regarding the suspects or any arrests. The motive, while suspected to be robbery, is still under investigation.
